OUR OUT BUILDINGS
Here at Half Pint acres we try to keep our out buildings small and simple. We currently have 4 Out Buildings. The Chantecler/ Australorp coop, the Sumatra coop, pig shelter, as well as the rabbit shed. We like to raise our animals as naturally as possible and in doing so we try to let them adapt to the changing environment around them, and in doing so we avoid heat lamps as much as we can
Our largest coop is the Chantecler/ Austrlorp coop. It is devided to help keep our breeds pure with the Chantelcers on the left and the Australorps on the right. The deviding wall is made out of ply wood as well as chicken wire to keep the birds devided, prevent the roosters from fighting but also allows Air flow. Through out the entire coop. This coop dose have a light for in the winter to help give our birds more day light hours for laying. Each Breed dose have its own run attached to the coop, giving the birds access to the out doors all day long.
Our Sumatra coop is a smaller coop with a high roost and nest boxes as this breed can fly and enjoys being high off the ground. The high roosts also stops the Roosters tail from becoming dirt, or ruined as Sumatra's are a long tail breed. Along with high a high roost inside the coop the Sumatra run as logs, roots and plat forms for the birds to climb on during the day. This helps to keep the birds fit, allows them to starch their wings and keeps them happy.
Our Pig shelter allows them to get out of the cold and the wind. Being build on skids it keeps them off the ground and allows them to stay dry. The design of this shelter is meant to help keep them dry, out of the wind and keep them warm through out the winter months.
Finially we come to our Rabbit shed. This is where we house the rabbits through out the year. It allows them to stay dry, clean, and relitivly warm through out the winter and cool through the hot summer months. With a fence and gate our dogs can not get to the rabbits to cause them harm or harrase them in their cages.
If you have any questions about any of our out building please feel free to contact us. We would be happy to hear from you.
Updates Coming soon: All outbuildings are currently under renovations, and more are being constructed
